(Translated by Google) Added August 3, 2023 I had the opportunity to try out the Selmer Jubilee Series II alto saxophone. Apparently it's brand new, just arrived. My impression after playing it was that it felt, frankly, like unseasoned seaweed. In a good way, it's in a pristine, pristine condition. It's a saxophone that the owner can then personalize. Because of this, it's very rewarding to play, as you can create your own sound in any way you like. You could almost say it's a personal instrument. It's easy to play, and I found it to be a good instrument, with a consistent tone across all scales without any muffled octave notes. I've also played the Jubilee Series III before, which had a brilliant, bright tone with a sharp, clear high range. On the other hand, the Jubilee Series II has a solid, heavy feel, and the more I played it, the more its flavor seemed to come through. That said, it's not difficult to play at all, so I think even beginners should be able to handle it. It's a used instrument, but I previously tried out the Series II model, which came before the Jubilee, and it felt very heavy to play, and I couldn't get the full sound out of it. It didn't have a clear sound, and it felt difficult to play. The Jubilee Series II is a pretty good saxophone, and I can see why so many players still use it. The intonation wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The only drawback is that, since it's designed for foreign hands, the keys are quite wide, and the table keys in particular may take some getting used to. That said, it's rare to find an instrument that you can customize to your own style, so this is an exciting instrument that's completely different from the unique characteristics of Yamaha, Yanagisawa, and other instruments, and is rewarding to develop. I personally want one, but the price...
2023/6/17 Update I bought a ZAC ligature from Brilliant. (Made in Italy🇮🇹) I bought it based on appearance without any prior information, but it's amazing. Until now, I've been using the Bamboo NOVA ligature. Its string construction allows it to fit any mouthpiece, makes it easy to attach reeds, and it has a thick, non-sharpening sound. However, this new ligature, the "ZAC," maintains that thick sound, is easy to play, and resonates well. The brass fittings on the reed are removable, allowing the reed to be secured with just the string, resulting in a softer sound. Also, the string and brass fittings can be easily replaced with wood options, so I'd like to try it out next time. It's a fun ligature to play.
Added 2/11/2022 I found a used Yamaha YTR-800GS, a trumpet I've always wanted, for sale. I say I've always wanted one, but I've never played a trumpet, so I decided to try it out. Brilliant is very helpful, as they're willing to accommodate any test play requests. Even if you don't buy it, they won't force you to buy it unless you like it. So I can buy with confidence. This time, I'm looking at Yamaha's first Custom Series YTR-800GS. It's a gold brass and silver-plated instrument, befitting its custom design. Although it's a used item, it's in incredibly good condition. The plating is beautiful and it's truly in mint condition! The pistons are ultra-smooth. The tuning tubes work perfectly. I've never played a trumpet before, but I gave it a try. I tried buzzing with just the mouthpiece, and surprisingly, it produced a nice sound. This time, I attached it to the instrument and played, and it produced a booming sound. It's been about 20 years since I played a trombone or cornet, so I finally got a sound. (^o^;) Wow, what a great sound. I tried some scale notes and felt a sense of accomplishment. I ended up buying it with a Bach 5C mouthpiece. They provided free valve oil and grease. I received all the different types of cloths, so I got another ivory one. All in all, it's a beautiful instrument, and the tone is amazing. I'm still basking in the afterglow of being reunited after 35 years. Thank you, Brilliant. I'll start practicing buzzing tomorrow. I've been buying only B♭ wind instruments. A curved soprano, a tenor saxophone (still in production), and a trumpet. Only the alto saxophone is an E♭ instrument. If I buy a trombone, euphonium, and tuba, I could form a symphonic band. I kind of want a trombone too❗f(^ー^; I wonder if I'm sick now⁉️
12/19 Update I just bought an alto saxophone. It's a P. Mauriat, made in Taiwan. It was designed and engineered in France, and seems to be inspired by Selmer. The vintage-style dark lacquer is sophisticated. The large bell allows for good mid-low resonance. The keys are light and comfortable for Japanese players. Above all, it has a great, casual feel👍️. I tried it out many times and played it until I was satisfied. I've found a great instrument. I will treasure it. P. Mauriat has a relatively light feel. It's hard to say for sure, as each instrument is different, but it's easy to play and can produce a range of tones from dark to bright, so I think it's suitable for any genre. When you buy a new one from Brilliant, you get free inspections and adjustments for three years, which is a great deal. They'll make fine adjustments as your playing level improves.
First Post Yamaha Alto Saxophone I had my YAS-62 inspected and adjusted. It's now much easier to play, and they were able to accommodate even the smallest of adjustments. I'm glad they handled it so carefully.
